Topped every Gen 7 poll asking kids "what's your favourite pokémon from Sun and Moon", got everstoned in the anime due to it being as popular as Dawn's Piplup yet when it came time to regionalise a grass starter, they chose the youngest, newest final stager which did terribly among the target audience.
Can keep pushing your "i liek it so it am poopular" meme all you want but until they give Pikachu, Gengar, Charizard, Lucario, Garchomp, Mewtwo, actually POPULAR pokémon a regional form, it's clear they only use regionals to tart up an old failure of a design (because if something's popular from reveal, they don't NEED to redesign it to make it sell merch, it does it authentically).
