they just stopped getting experimental and spinoffs started becoming scarce in this period or more freemium games like Rumble 3DS started showing up and then GO came out and kind cemented that Pokemon spinoffs aren't going to be much more than mobile games now other than the occasional drop in the water like Pokken, or Snap 2.
the Gens 2-4 era of spinoffs is long gone, i've made my peace
