When Ohmori revealed that he was basically an orphan as both of his parents died when he was still very young it suddenly makes a lot more sense why his plots are so obsessed with the idea of family.

I wouldn't have issues with it if it wasn't so disingenuous or forced, I understand having a miserable life and desperately wanting an outlet to express your pain and hope that someone understands what you've been through, but when you keep doing it over and over again in vague family drama plots or nasty school bully plots that never come to full fruition it really feels like you're doing it for the sake of whoring for attention rather than the previous point. It's been 3 generations of literally just this to one extent or another and I'm fucking tired, fuck dude just let me adventure through cool set pieces and lands with my Pokemon bros in peace instead of having to put up with the same bland cardboard tropes and characters, SV did okay with Arven and such but please try something new instead of wallowing in the same pity party crap.

There was the whole thing with Hop wanting to live up his expectations of being as good as Leon, but being disappointed in himself because he failed to do so. But yeah, that's kind of a stretch, it's pretty different from Ohmori's usual shtick. Maybe that's why SwSh's overall story was so shit, lol.

Yet at the same time there is. It's barely forced upon you, you just have to look around while catching and fighting bugs to find it, rewarding those who go off the beaten path.

Never gonna happen. Pokémon games are escapist power phantasies. You can also see in the leaked notes how they are extremely careful to not upset the player.

I don't mind the family stuff, gen 7 and and 9 had some of the more interesting story elements compared to the Masuda era. It feels more authentic coming from sonebody who's actually experienced it, and lots of others will relate.

People loved Lusamine's batshitness (until USUM neutered her), and Arven as a whole.

Damn, now that I think about it, Bede was probably the best character (imo) in SwSh, but lacked development (like most story stuff in SV, although I'd argue he lacked it the least while Marnie lacked it the most).
It really is the one type of character that Ohmori can write well, huh?

Well I'm upset because not only do I barely get my escapist power fantasy, I have to watch some girl or man cry about their family issues for hours. I thought this game series is about glorified bug catching, not Therapist Simulator.

I honestly fucking loathe stories like the ones Ohmori tells because they make it feel as though the player has no agency and that their existence doesn't really matter, it's just a vehicle for the plot and exposition, I know Pokemon is a "roleplaying" game and has been especially self-inserty these past few gens, but it would be nice if the MC had actual standout moments or some interesting plot related to them, gen 3 had a neat one where your dad was a gym leader and it felt more than any Pokemon game that your journey through Hoenn was the MC's right of passage, it wasn't anything special but it was neat, fuck that was supposed to be the point with Alola but thanks to Lillie hogging the spotlight and trials being so shit it fumbled extremely hard.
