The reason this feels like BS is simple these 3 chuckle bucks didn't actually win gym badges.
Everything they did was participation trophies for the Tera course.
It's basically sun and moon all over again.
It didn't help that they lost tons of those as well thus reminding people of kanto.
But atleast there you could say the gym leader was going all out.
The problem is nobody would have a problem with this if they actually just let the horizon trio earn normal badges.
Not only that but it would basically be more consistent because now everyone is confused at what level of power their all at.
Are they as strong as a champion. No! Because they can't be and that would break narrative cohesion.
Are they as strong as gym leaders or 8th badge level. NO!
Because we don't know how much the gym leaders are holding back against them.
We can't say they were going all out because this wasn't really a gym battle.
That's what makes the horizons trio beating Geeta so weird
