I wouldn't be so fast to say canon, the anime routinely bends Pokemon anatomy for things to make sense visually. The most notable example is when they break Lucario's hands to give it thumbs so it can use bone rush properly. They do this with other Pokemon too, like Braixen and
>>57212386. There's other stuff the anime is inconsistent about as well, like Giving Hitmonlee spring legs when it has accordion ones in the games, etc etc.
tl;don't take the anime as gospel, even if the guidelines are more strict than they were in the 90s, the anime still has a fair share of random made up stuff if it helps sell a scene.
