-Super Contests. Expanding on the rhythm game portion of the gen 4 contests and making that the central focus, while letting the ball seals have an impact like in the anime, was honestly a good idea. The problem is that they just made it an A masher instead of actually incorporating multiple buttons like other rhythm games, and the seals can easily be cheesed in the post game by just slapping a bunch of champion seals on your Pokémon. They also dropped the ball hard on the move portion; could’ve reworked that into contest battles like the anime as well, but instead they went the route of Unova’s Musical props mechanic and made it an attention stealer shoved into the rhythm game and you can only use one move.
-Amity Square. Could’ve been the Camp/Picnic equivalent, they even added a poffin pot to the place so you can cook with your party, but instead they kept it the exact same as its original incarnation, stupid restrictions and all. Throwing salt into the wound, this is how you unlock following Pokémon in BDSP, yet like I said, they kept the stupid Pokémon restrictions to the place that prides itself on letting you walk with your Pokémon. Related tangent regarding Affection buffs: starting in gen 8, friendship and affection were merged, but they made it so friendship can only go so high naturally (they made friendship evolutions come at a lower friendship level to compensate) and you had to use Camp/Picnics to unlock the affection buffs, so that it wouldn’t be forced onto players. Guess which game didn’t get the memo, forcing affection buffs onto players, when the problem could’ve been avoided by reworking an existing area. And believe me, the affection buffs truly are forced, even if you exclusively used bitter medicine like I did, your Pokémon gain friendship at too fast a rate for it to even be held at bay.
