For context, their Japanese names are Sango (the Japanese word for Coral) and Onyx

For English, they just directly translated Sango into Coral and changed Onyx to Sidian for obvious reasons, so their aliases were changed into other foods that start with the same letter

She speaks in a weird way where she adds "oni" to her sentence sometimes. The dub probably interpreted that as a southern accent or something. Weird how they didn't give a fuck when May added "kamo" when she speaks sometimes in Japanese.

They're the closest equivalent but they're still very different. They used to be decisively stronger than the protagonists and they've just recently been matched by them, plus they only show up sparingly when relevant to the plot. The current series doesn't spam characters as a plot device to generate conflict in an episode like the Team Rocket trio was used 90% of the time.

Yeah sure. Totally a reference to the English side which is more and more marginalized over the years as the inferior experience with a dub studio that's long since has stopped working for Pokémon, in a language which got heavily censored by said Dub studio.

They came up with Onigiri on the fly because Onyx slipped the first two letters of his name and Sango just rolled with the food theme. You dubtards are slower than I thought.
