Modern pokemon designs are too cartoony, geometric, and they lean too heavily into themes and concepts. The inane designs in Pokemon Quartz aren't any worse than Gamefreak's contemporary "pokemon".

Sometimes the "memorable flaws" end up looking less like flaws and something more natural. For instance Serperior's puny arms are so well integrated they can pass for cloak extensions or leaves so they work out.
