Granted they fucked the pony and needed to delay to fix the issues with the Wi-Fi but they still went a year and more without saying bugger all about the next games in the series, 'till they had unfucked the project and had the game almost ready to send off for reproduction and shipping (that's the whole reason why Battle Frontier saga was commissioned, keep kids hooked on the brand until they had the next game and anime ready to roll, just as Orange Islands arc was to keep the Genwun kiddies invested until Gen 2 got launched). Them taking a year off (which they seem to take every 10-ish years now by habit, rather than necessity like '05 and '15) isn't all that strange, especially when a 4 year Gen that sees 4 separate core releases is more unlikely (Game Freak really only can handle 3 projects in 3 years, by virtue of how they set their teams up).
