Ash sees that Serena is a bit hazy and lost in thought due to uncertainty about her immediate future, so he shows that he actually wasn't completely ignoring Serena's interests in the "date" episode like 80 episodes earlier, but in fact knew exactly what *should* make Serena happy and thus tries to repeat that "date," but this time 100% focused on Serena, with him excitedly pointing out the girly stuff, presumably exactly what Serena had wanted back in that initial episode.
