>>57252097I'm from Spain and I was incredibly excited for a Spain-based region.
I actually did like SV, but Paldea's design was quite boring. The Iberian peninsula actually has a lot of climate diversity - which does make it a good candidate for a nuPokémon region which wants to include all the biomes -, but for some reason, the climates make no sense... Why is there a huge desert in northern Portugal, and why are there bamboo forests in the Pyrenees? Why are most towns made up of suburban American houses with large yards, and not how the typical rural Spanish town looks, with houses dating from medieval times, made with stone masonry?
Spain has an incredibly diverse and memorable landscape, with each region having its own unique flair, but... no. In Paldea, it's all just bland, boring, and forgettable.
There is some attention to detail, though. I like the olive fields; Spain is the biggest producer of olive oil in the world, and it's a huge part of our culture. But there's so much more... The Central Plateau (Meseta Central) is characterized by its endless wheat fields, and the entire south and east are big producers of fruit! Spain produces a lot of oranges, many of them grown around Valencia. If you're from the EU, many of the fruits you see in your local supermarket come from here!
Instead, we get... bamboo forests.
At least Madrid got blown up by a crater. Area Zero is the most kino location in the game.
I'm also butthurt because the part of Spain where I'm from, Catalonia, just directly doesn't appear...
