Is this duck the strongest pokemon in the original mystery dungeon games?

>gets agility
>gets recover
>gets recycle (for amazing PP efficiency)
>can walk on water
>levels up fast, so level 1 dungeons are a cinch for it

nah. strongest in PMD1 is kecleon, strongest in PMD2 is drifblim. in both cases it's not even really close, they're just that much better than everyone else.
porygon line is definitely VERY high tier, though.

Yeah, discharge makes it even better but that’s only in the explorers games sadly. I think you only get vacuum cut in the originals (though with agility I suppose it’s enough)

Drifblim is very good though, I agree with that anon, unburden lets it attack twice if it’s not holding an item and it gets ominous wind

Drifblim was powerful in the zero isles, but I had more luck with Smoochum.

Smoochum is really good too.

If you ever play the originals again, you should try grabbing Porygon2 in buried relic. Very fun pokemon to play..

unburden gives you double moves in a single turn for no extra PP cost as long as you're not holding an item, which is obviously the easiest thing ever to achieve.
outside of level 1 dungeons it roomclears like no one else with double ominous wind, each hit of which can proc a speed boost which means even more ominous wind.
and in level 1 dungeons it has unparalelled offense with unburden + starting with dual stabs, and also evade tanks better than smoochum thanks to the minimize + unburden combo letting you absolutely crank your evasion every single floor.

honestly the discussion of who's strongest is a lot more interesting when talking about sky. exclusive items make a lot of difference and there are some crazy meme builds.
like there's a few exclusive items that restore PP when taking damage, and those actually proc on HUNGER damage. so pelipper can have essentially infinite PP, heal off the hunger damage with roost, and abuse the hell out of movespeed with tailwind.
or rayquaza can have permanent +1 movespeed with the flying gem, immunity to status conditions with the dragon gem, and 2x attackspeed with its own exclusive item. sure, all of these require the weather to be clear to work... but air lock forces that and can't be overridden in any way.

There is pretty much zero downside to Drifblim. Best ability, best IQ group the legendary exclusive ones are a meme and i will die on that hill, best offenses, best defenses, best crowd control. The only downside is that it can't phase through walls, but it's so strong it doesn't need to.

This utter shitter is better than you'd think. Awful stat growths, but levels up at lightning speed. In RT, levels have an utterly massive effect on damage outside of raw stats, so Zigzagoon can outdamage your protags despite the worse stats via raw levels alone. Not to mention, it gets multihitters.

perish song has an extremely shaky accuracy BUT it also has a range of the entire floor, while lock-on makes it guaranteed to hit, making smeargle the only pokemon in the entire game with a reliable floor-wiping move. everything else is constrained to just room moves at best.

There’s still gaps in power, but literally every Pokemon can be great because of how the broad mechanics work
