If they wanted stat XP to be good, or any of this shit to be intuitive at all, they would reward points (at least for attacking stats) based on the moves you use rather than the Pokemon you beat. If I'm using physical attacks that shit should be going up every time I beat something. Every normal playthrough of these games will make all your fighting types physically defensive for no fucking reason, and stat XP would've just given them every stat instead, which is also dumb.
The only thing I get the reason for doing is rewarding defensive/hp EVs based on the Pokemon you beat, since yeah, normally you can't kill things with defensive moves. It's just a bad system currently and should be what they prioritize tuning with each new game, rather than just leaving it alone.
