The fact that it takes Norman 30 minutes to walk from your house to the Petalburg Gym every day is a pretty good indicator that we see is significantly scaled down from what it's like in-universe

that's honestly even smaller than I imagined it in my head. 30 minutes wouldn't even take me halfway across my mid-sized city.
if we look at real life Kyushu and assume that Littleroot = Sasebo, and Petalburg = Karatsu, that would be like a 12 hour walk irl.
