>>57382125Pokemon's speed isn't a framerate problem, it's a presentation problem.
For example, the sliding in animation was shit then and it's shit now. It could just be straight into the battle.
In addition, "A wild Starly appeared!" no shit sherlock it's a random battle in the grass, and I know it's called Starly because it says it right there in the corner.
The attacks are the worst part. "Chimchar used scratch!" well no shit that's what I told it to use, but the text, then the animation, then the damage freedback, then the HP bar draining, then the cry, then the collapse, the first four could all be done at the same time and the last two could be done at the same time.
And yeah, my pokemon's stat went down, but damn near every other RPG by the time Pokemon came out changed to UI and shader-based feedback such as icons or changing the color of the afflicted being.
Another major problem is item use, I don't care how much it healed, I can see the fucking healthbar, speaking of healthbar just have it go up in one tick for fuck's sake. Consult Shin Megami Tensei 4 for ideas in fast menu operation.
The problem with Pokemon's speed is that every fucking thing has to wait its turn, just another symptom of Pokemon joining the RPG arena 10 years late and spending its whole life trying to catch up. Every aspect of the game feels like it is deliberately engineered to waste every single second it can for no reason other than to make a good game into a tedious slog.
Before you start screeching "ADHD Zoomer", I'm in my 30s and any time Pokemon does anything to improve its speed I will point out a game from my childhood that already did that before gen 1 was a thing.
