Investing has been normalised within the TCG community. Whether people want to admit it or not, the 'community' is at fault for constantly discussing everything in terms of dollar value on the secondary market.
Second, YouTubers and other content creator niggers also add fuel to this fire by making 90% of their content about how to profit from Pokémon cards. This includes the big channe;s that are officially supporrted by TPCI like PTCGRadio, and of course, Pokerev and his ilk.
Third, PTCGP's release brought A LOT of people back into Pokémon in a similar way PoGo did. Combine that with the climate of the TCG, then SSP having Pikachu for the gEnwunners, and there's always going to by hype.
Finally, a significant majority of the people who've come back into the hobby are 30-40 year old millennials who have money to burn. Whether they're investing, scalping, whatever, people are spending way more on product than they used to. Years ago, it was a pack, then a box, now it's clearing out everything you can get.
