Because they want as much money as possible in the shortest time period possible. The most you’ll ever get in terms of nuance is original Black and White. Hell, I wouldn’t be surprised if they tone it down for any remakes.

Pokemon literally promotes idolatry which is one of the tenants of christianity. There is no way around that. The core mechanic of Pokemon also violates the 10th commandment. None of that matters to most hypocritical christians but ones that follow gospel would be against Pokemon, same for any Abrahamic religion.

Well, what topics would fit into the setting of Pokemon? They created a universe with less problems than real life. There is no sexism, women are not held back from higher institutions like Gym Leader or Champion. There is one true God in mythology, and he even has a physical body, so there are no "religious" conflicts.

There are war stories in BW and XY, but they took place many years ago so there isn't much to discuss about them. Maybe in Legend Z.

If Pokémon does, then so does Disney, so does marvel, so does every other company who wants a specific branding associated with their product. “Idolatry” can happen to anything and everything so long as you allow it to. Nothing is “idolatry” if you don’t allow it to be, if you understand that it is just something you do for fun or something you consume in moderation.
At the end of the day, anything the literal Pope specifically gives the okay to is okay. Don’t take it too far and you’ll be just fine

It already has a mature take on religion because it presents its mythology in a way that is at times contradictory and vague enough that people will follow what they personally believe is the 'true' canon of the texts, leading to schisms and infighting.

I'm a big fan of death of the author. I don't care what the intention of the writing is. I care about what is actually written. I'm aware that the writers likely did not intend to create this scenario, but the scenario naturally arose because it's what naturally happens in religion so it was natural that it would occur in this fantasy religion.
