The Raidons control smoothly and are easy to use, theres only one button to access every HM, and using them makes it universally easier and faster to navigate the world. The Ride Pokemon on the other hand? Each one has to be set to a different button and there are more of them than there are assignable buttons. And they control terribly. They take up a massive amount of the tiny 3DS screen space and constantly get snagged on the level geometry. They have sharp jerky movements, and are too big to fit through half the passages in the game. Even Taurus, the one that is supposed to be your "bike" can't turn at full speed and has to be constantly dismounted from because he can't fit around such and such corner or interact with such and such ledge.
