It wasn't until around the time of SWSH's Hype Season, specifically Dexit, that a ragebaiter who gained the moniker of Yawnfag, based on his original habit of using stock photos of men yawning in his posts, came around and started shitting on Gen 5 for extremely petty reasons that no one actually cares about, such as the aforementioned berry farming, in order to get (You)s, all the while defending the 3D era of Pokemon.
Naturally a notable portion of /vp/, retards that they are, took the bait and began to argue and defend gen 5 with such intensity that entire threads would derail until archiving due to bump limit or being 404'd outright in an endless shitflinging against someone who could easily weave his opposer's words into words that can benefit his case, and he'd find any possible reason to waddle into a thread, start *YAAAAAAWN*ing about Unova, and get everyone arguing with him.
Trolls looking for their own (You)s naturally recognized this and saw how easy it was to farm engagement by shitting on a generation, especially because the sheer autism of /vp/'s users meant they'd NEVER get tired of arguing or using the same exhausted talking points they've already used (to no success if not outright detrimental results) in threads of the past, and so you saw this extend to other games.
While the actual Yawnfag probably hasn't been around in years, his method was so effective on /vp/, having been mindbroken and jaded from LGPE and SWSH, his initiative endured and completely took over the board thanks to individuals like other trolls (ESPECIALLY faggots from sharty after it was born in 2020), vehemently passionate and mentally ill schizoposters and more, resulting in the culture you see today where you genuinely cannot discuss any aspect of a single game or generation without it derailing into a genwar and/or one of the resident schizos and their sharty imitators shitting up the thread.
