It just had a lot of games with said games being very good. In particular the spinoffs. GF needs to focus even more on spinoff titles I think since my fondest memories come from those.
Keep releasing a mainline once in a while "because that's what they do" and put more effort into spinoffs because you can get more creative with them.

On the 3DS. I mean they were shilling mega ring toys at kids fucking HARD all Gen 6, tried it again in Gen 7 with Z-Rings, then got blasted by parents when they tried to sell Z-Power Rings and stopped, because they pissed off the sacred cows of Japanese parents.
And let's not forget how unintuitive they deliberately made acquiring mega stones in XY in the first place.

I'm sure when you were 7 and easily pleased, it was great. But assuming EVERYONE was that age and mentality in 2009's stupid, I moved to Australia that year, bought both Platinum and Soul Silver there too. But I also had a laptop to play games on, proper ones mind, not emutarded 90's roms so it was but a re-tread of Silver and not the bestest thing since sliced pikachu ham to me.
