Assuming we are indeed getting Kalosian forms, how do you think they'll explain them existing in PLZA but not in XY?

We're not. Why would Kalos suddenly have it's own regional forms only 12 years after the events of X and Y? Only excuse is the ultimate weapon going off made Pokemon evolve and adapt different in Kalos post X and Y. Even then that's kind of a flimsy excuse.

Only Pokémon not originally present in Kalos AND without a ORAS mega would receive regional variants. The only Pokémon fitting these two conditions (and exclusing random starters and legendaries that are unlikely to appear) are:

>Z-A starters
>Raticate
>Persian
>Porygon
>Misdreavus
>Stantler
>Slaking
>Claydol
>Milotic
>Castform
>Kricketune
>Cherrim
>Purugly
>Lumineon
>Whimsicott
>Darmanitan
>Cofagrigus
>Jellicent
>Eelektross
>Beyeehem
>Bouffalant
>Gen7+ mons
Many Pokémon on this list already have regionals and there aren't many Pokémon that aren't present in Kalos in first place when you discount legendaries

I don't think there will be Kalosian forms considering Gen 9 didn't have many and the DLC straight up didn't have any. And with Z-A being set in modern times, doesn't feel like there isn't a good reason for them unless they retcon. Maybe "Quasar forms" that were experiments or something

I think the starters may get a new evolution instead of a regional form. Similar to Wydeer, Kleavor and Ursaluna where they don't evolve from a regional form but can't be done in other games. We'll also get some other new evolutions and convergents like Gen 9 did
