I always loved the Gen 3 remakes. They’re beautiful. The criticism of them is so shallow and basically boils down to “reeee the game gave me a free Latias/Latias” as though you can’t just box them if you don’t want to use them. They’re just convenient HM whores more than anything.

I just finished this game today.
It is just Hoenn but worse. The introduction of exp share + O powers + mega evolution + free Latios make an already easy game trivial. They even ignore the good changes made in Emerald for no reason. I am not just talking about there being no battle facility, but they included the shit team comps of Ruby as well. Seventh Gym leader has two fucking mons.
If you played Emerald or Ruby/Saphire, skip this game it is a straight up downgrade.
Still better than XY THOUGH!

It's in an uncanny valley game that can't decide if it wants to be something different or something familiar. PLA is an example of doing something different, but well. HGSS is an example of doing something familiar but well. ORAS does both, but just ok.

The best thing about ORAS is the new story content. God, that’s how you make a remake. What the duck were they thinking when they made BDSP? I gotta admit, I was sour on ORAS at first, there were some aspects I was critical of, but gotta appreciate the new contents they added to it.

The only actual issue with the game are the unskippable cutscenes. If they had just removed that, they would be the best games in the series.

They were pretty good. The 3DS games overall were quite good. You stupid ****s threw tantrums on every 3DS Pokemon entry driving GF to essentially give up. GF gave up remaking the older games as well after the reception ORAS received. The Switch era is a nightmare compared to the 3DS era.

I totally understand the complaints about the exp share in XY because you literally HAVE to turn it off at points or else you will get stupidly overleveled. But GF properly balanced it in ORAS and SM. You don’t get overleveled just playing the game naturally. It almost feels like people who complain about it are complaining that the game doesn’t make you grind against wild mons to reach a normal level cap.

I don't like the changes they did to the game with some examples being Granite Cave being optional now, gym leaders levels being lowered, and Trick House loosing two levels.There's also all the loading zones that weren't there in the originals because the XY engine cannot handle large continuous areas. It all makes ORAS a divisive experienced that makes it hard to put it over RS.

Yes you do
My Delcatty was level 77 at the end of the league. I even skipped a great deal of trainers during my playthough, so she could have been a few levels higher. It is literally the same exp distribution that was in RSE but now you are given a tool that multiplies that exp by six.

you are never ever forced to grind in any Pokemon game.

Exp share in ORAS only shares 50% of the exp to pokemon that weren’t involved in the battle, not 100%. If you only battle with one pokemon, obviously it will get overleveled, and that’s true in any gen.

I check and only Winona and Tate and Liza and Wallace (but Emerald Juan is equal to him) got slight levels boost. Movesets tho, you can make an argument that ORAS is better because of the Physical/Special split. All except for Winona who got fucking neuter. Really, Cotton guard over Dragon dance!? But I'll give credit where it's due, they did a damn good job with the Elite Four. In my first playthrough I was honestly surprised with how challenging with 3/4 of them dropping the weaker links that their RSE team had.

50% is alot of experience for doing absolutely nothing
The original exp share in gen 3 cuts 50% of exp earned from the contributing Pokemon. Now you get that for at most 5 mons at once AND the contributing Pokemon suffer no exp penalty.
I will give GF some credit for putting just a small amount of effort into balancing it for ORAS, but it wasn't enough and the system is still horribly implemented overall.

If you have a full team and are properly rotating them, I don’t think you should be getting overleveled even with the exp share on. Admittedly it’s been a while since I played ORAS, but I don’t remember having to tinker with the exp share much if ever. XY was the only 3DS game that I distinctly remember it being a problem.
