>>57484905No. The rival wants to make a name for themselves as a Mega Evolution trainer, but lost to the protagonist at the Tower of Mastery and lost out on the first Mega Ring, and starts to get frustrated that they can never defeat the player no matter what they do or how hard they train, feeling they can't make a name for themselves if they can't surpass you. Eventually they accept their own path and get a Mega Ring for themselves too.
