>>57493654Anon you can make any character come across as an "antithesis" with a few descriptions, but if they don't do anything in the plot, they don't matter in the long run. If you wrote Wicke out of SM the story legitimately doesn't change in the slightest. No other character is like that, even fucking Mina whose role as the only Trial Captain of Poni Island is treated like a gag when she doesn't even do her job
>>57496508Silver's character archetype was a more extreme version of Blue, but it didn't pan out because becoming the strongest and losing wouldn't have helped what Silver's character needed. He needed to be taught love and compassion, which is what the protag does. His issues with his father are a foundational part of his character, but not the focus of his arc
Marnie is a friendless goober that struggles to relate to other people, but her positioning in the plot gives her little to work with. It's easy to just shrug and say she's nothing like Lillie because the game doesn't elaborate much on what Marnie does versus SM taking every stop they could to have Lillie do something. They clearly wanted to change the roles around of a similar friend group of friendly boy, edgy boy, girl coming off of SM, but all it did was break the roles the Alola trio made work by not really supplementing the shift in design with a new perspective, effectively. You can write Bede and Marnie entirely out of SwSh and not lose anything, while Gladion at least is still relevant to SM. Hau maybe less so, but he at least comes across as a little more plot-active than Bede given he's is the only other character going through the trials and even has his own arc of coming to terms with his inadequacy in a less depressing way than Hop's arc does
But fundamentally trying to square peg/circle hole the similar vibes and plot beats of SM is a common issue with SwSh's writing
