Yes, pokémon was never a technically groundbreaking game, but it always compensated with visually-pleasing aesthetics that did their best with what they had, there is a reason their charm is still cherished today. Even in the ds era that is recently being shat on by certani ''people'' , GF managed to create a good balance between sprites and 3d - also let's be real, the 3d on the ds fucking sucked and most games that only had that looked godawful.

''did their best'' as in ''did their best to make the game look good despite being incompetent fucks from a technical standpoint'', meaning the graphics were good to an extent as they still looked pleasing to the eye and memorable despite being limited. What happens today is that neither of these two variables actually happens and the games are both ugly and technically behind.

Emerald is DLC on an actual unfinished game and barely polished the graphics. Weirdly enough Brawly got a different overworld sprite that looks worse than his RS sprite

But what does that mean? You're implying art direction and technical prowess are tightly related. RSE doesn't look bad at all, no, and unlike with recent games, it doesn't matter that it's not a visual masterpiece because it has enough positives to make up for it. But pretending Game Freak "did their best" is delusional.

I'm implying the exact opposite dude. Technical prowess and art direction aren't tightly related, and a game doesn't necessarily need cutting-edge graphics to look good if the artistic direction behind them is good. So yes, i feel like GF ''did their best'' with the latter.

Debatable, personally I think Gen 5's 3D is OK but damn Gen 4 is ugly

Thats true to some extend, Problem with that is that you can cherry pick games to fit your narrative
Ofc New Super Mario Bros or Phantom Houglass would look bad when compared to Diamond/Pearl but what about Mario Slam Basket? Mario Party? Or games like Megaman Starforce, Ghost Trick, Solatorobo or Avalon Code?
And that's just 3D, when you expand to 2D on the DS there's games like Megaman Zero Collection and both ZX/Advent (essentially 4 frigging GBA games) Battle network 5, Shiren The Wanderer (Mostly 4 and 5, DS1 and DS2 look alright but 4/5 looks way better) Super Robot Wars W, the Mario & Luigi Games (Mostly Bowser's inside story, partners in time is ok) Knights in the Nightmare, Kirby Super Star Ultra/Squeak Attack/Mass attack and so on and on

My point being that GF COULD have exploited the Hardware way more than what we got.

That was the peak of Game Freak, in terms of graphics. GSC is one of the best looking games on the GBC. Can’t really say the same about most other pokemon games, especially after the DS. The Switch lineup has been absolutely shameful.

Yes, that is by design, because obvious the less detailed something is, the easier it is to make it on a regular basis. The brighter colors also make it more appealing to children. At no point would I ever want an anime picture of something that has a Sugimori equivalent.

The TCG (at least the earlier TCG) I see as something that typically expands upon the games rather than reinvents them. A lot of mid/later Gen I and early Gen II era cards seem to be based on concepts that were going to be used in Gold and Silver, like fake Professor Oak. I think the Stadium games are kind of similar due to the shared blood they have with the Game Boy games, but I don't think of Orre or Battle Revolution in the same way.
