>>57502985ignore the children saying Gen1. Bulba has a great match up against Brock and Misty and a defensive one against Surge and a stalemate against Erika. But Koga packs Psychic, Sabrina packs Psychic, Blaine packs Fire, and Giovanni, who Bulba should be good against gets outsped by everything other than Rhydon and gets chewed up and spit out by Dugtrio and Persian. Then you get the Elite 4, where you'd think he would do good against Lorelai, but they all pack ice and or psychic. Bruno is literally a half time show everyone is good against Bruno. Agatha beats Bulba and so does Lance.
Squirtle on the other hand is easy mode. It doesn't have a single bad big trainer matchup. You get dig right before Surge, Ice Beam right before Erika. Every other major trainer is either weak to Squirtle or neutral at best. Thanks to gym badges and "IVs" youll outspeed nearly everything too, so one of it's weaknesses isn't a weakness. It also gets Bubblebeam/Water Pulse ridiculously early to amp it up for ripping through route trainers. Bodyslam in gen 1, Rest, Mimic, Reflect, Double Team, Substitute. Even if you're new to the game and don't know all the tricks, Squirtle is still the easiest to clear the game with.
