I shitted on SwordShield when it came out.. but times have changed. I now see that this game got some things extremely right.
Gym battles have never been this good. This is the only Pokemon game where gym battles are so adrenaline-pumping I replay them over and over. They're rather easy, but slaying "unbeatable!!!" trainers with your left hand is another kind of pleasure.
Winning is rewarding, because all the NPC's first hype up the gym leaders (and Leon) and when you beat them, everyone strokes your ego. This game will make you feel like a god with little effort. The stadium setting with a cheering crowd works very well.
Literally the best-looking Pokemon game in history. Some people laughed at the graphics but then SV was released and people went quiet. The restricted camera angle doesnt matter, it makes this feel like a real Pokemon game. We all know GF is physically incapable of making 3d games so why pretend. 2.5D works.
However, SwSh dropped many comfy features that Ultramoon had, like being able to groom your Pokemon. Many aspects of SwSh were executed hastily and left the world feeling empty. Compared to the dumpster fire that is SV, SwSh is a functioning game. But you can tell they had to keep content to a minimum to pull it off. Ultrasunmoon was brimming with content, mini games and shit.
