Most unintuitive routing of any gen. I’ve played Gen 3 like a dozen times and I still sometimes forget exactly where I’m supposed to go. It’s not that big of a deal if you’re an adult, but I imagine it can get pretty frustrating at points if you’re a kid playing those games.

The menus fucking suck. Who gave to simply add natures, abilities, characteristics, ribbons and all this contest related stuff in the menu from a game to another without any explanation? It took so much time before people started to understand what the fuck is going on with the menu. It's like anti-QoL, it took a fuckton of time and gradual improvements before people started to understand what each thing meant.

It was stupid back then and it's still stupid now. Both team magma and team aqua are bickering brainlets beyond repair. At least team flare had the decency to do the honors of blowing themselves up.

3. A lot of the gen 4 evolutions should have been in gen 3 already
4. There's still no physical/special split
5. Backpack storage is too fucking small. Should have been bigger or even infinite.

it added pokemon like plusle + minun and volbeat + illumise whose whole point was to synergize in double battles but it was done poorly. First of all, there aren't even that many double battles in the game and hardly and important ones. And these pokemon that were meant for it are shit on their own and it's better to just use a Raichu or something in all cases over a minun. They should have been solid on their own and then synergized to be really good in double battles, and there should have been more of those.

I don't think there's much negative that can be said about Hoenn and what few things there are have already been brought up. One of mine and most everyone's biggest issues is that too many Pokemon feel like they were intentionally made to be mediocre, too many slow, frail mixed attackers or Pokemon like Aggron that feel like they're meant to be pseudo legendaries but aren't. I'm probably one of the few people who really likes the water in Hoenn, it felt relaxing, the music was nice and finding out stuff on my own felt rewarding. I don't understand why zoomoids get so fucking pissy at the mere mention of water routes in Pokemon games, they've always been there and exploration is a core part of the series.

While I do love the concept of the Battle Frontier. The steps that you need to take in order to even start playing at facilities like the Battle Tower, Battle Palace, and Battle Dome for example is a painfully long process if you didn't plan beforehand. If you're someone who had no idea that the Battle Frontier was coming after beating Hoenn's Elite 4 your teams levels were more than likely going to be too scrambled to immediately start playing. Then there's also the issue of assembling the Most Effective Team necessary for the Battle Frontier (save the Battle Factory). Now, I understand that you have to play and do what the game is asking you to do to get rewards, achievements, etc. But Emerald's Battle Frontier was asking players to rebuild what a strong Pokemon team looks like without the most reliable resources needed to take on the challenge. While team building can be fun and engaging itself, the process and methods to achieve those teams in Emerald version took far too long in my opinion. Which is why it's such a shame that since then, Game Freak has really improved team building by making requirements to take on facility challenges that much easier to fill. But they have shown no interest in re-introducing the Battle Frontier when now I believe players by enlarge would absolutely love it despite what press releases claim.

Wrong. The vast majority of the pokedex is shitmons. The only non shitmons are the starters, milotic, salamence, hariyama, metagross and the legendaries. Everything else is complete dogshit.

It’s not the map that’s the issue, it’s all weird locations you have to go to progress the game, and all the backtracking. Like in Slateport for example, you first have to visit 3 different buildings to talk to 3 different NPCs, and if you don’t actually read what they say, you can get lost really easily.

Coming from somebody that likes Gen 3, it’s one of the least groundbreaking games in the entire series. It introduced abilities, but that’s really it as far as new mechanics. Graphically, it was barely a step up from RBY and GS, and it got rid of the day and night cycle introduced in GS for no reason at all. I guess you can also credit it for introducing double battles, but it wasn’t until around gens 5/6 that there was a real push by TCG to make it an appealing format for competitive battling.
