Not to mention that much like how Pokémon has based multiple mons off popular kaijus, they could have easily argued that the idea process behind beta Lickilicky utilizes enough creative use to circumvent any accusations. It has body parts, isn't made of gum, its colors and patterns are different, and there could be no mention of how its body stores its tongue. If copyright were a concern, that should have been addressed long before it got to the sprite stage.
