The ideas in SV were good, the characters were mostly enjoyable except for penny, And the story did have some intrigue and it was interesting to progress and see where it went

But all of that stuff is on paper, in reality it was a nearly unplayable mess

He’s not wrong. S/V’s only real problem was the unoptimization. But it’s one of those games that you’re skeptical at first because of the jank graphics, but once you actually play it, you can clearly see the love and effort put into it. SWSH was the complete opposite. All style and 0 substance.

Gen 2 was bad. It completely killed pokemania. You can blame the fact that GF at the time was a small indie company that had no clue how to follow up the sudden and unprecedented success of their debut game, but fact remains that GS slammed on the breaks of the hype, and it wasn’t until the Switch era that they finally began seeing the same popularity in game sales again.

Gen 2’s fumble fucked over Gen 3’s sales so hard which was overwhelming a better designed game.

Gen 2 gatekept every good pokemon behind ridiculously rare encounter rates and late game walls which by that point you were better off just using overleveled starters and middling pokemon to beat the game. The average kid playing GS had absolutely no incentive to do anything except catch a few shitmons like Hoothoot until realizing that they’re better off just ramming their overleveled starter through every single obstacle until the game became boring. The game throws absolutely NO cool pokemon at the player that are worth training up. And in the instance that you run in to a rare as fuck Dunsparce in a cave and think “holy shit, this will surely have some OP evolution”, nope, it’s just a troll shitmon.

GS seems like it was built purely to annoy people instead of providing a fun experience.

I was there too. Everyone bought GS, and preceded to stop giving a fuck about Pokémon because it was so boring. It had the day and night cycle which was the big sell until people realized that it doesn’t actually reward you. Didnt matter whether you played the game at day or night, all that was available was shitmons either way.

All of its glitches were graphical and didn’t actually affect gameplay. You couldn’t get softlocked, you couldn’t just use the item menu to bug yourself through the terrain like RB.

You are such a lying piece of shit. I would LOVE if games could still be broken wide open via bug exploits, but S/V is boringly well programmed. You can’t actually break the game.

The games to this day has an unmatched memory leak that causes the framerate to drop and crash unless you reset every 20-30 minutes

My game froze when I talked to an NPC and I had to reset which sent me back about 45 minutes of play

Correct, i was just speaking from my personal experience, which almost certainly had more to do with age, than pokemon or nintendo themselves.
When the DS hit, Nintendo kinda stopped being 'cool', it was viewed as a gimmick. And we were becoming enamoured with the flashy graphics and hardgecoore content offerings from sony and sexbox.

No. The world is still lifeless and forgettable. GFs inability to make the towns have any identity fucking killed any chances of me caring about Paldea. Why can't I enter the buildings? Why are the NPCs more uninteresting than ever? Why turn Pokemon centers into fucking gas stations? (Because they couldn't have you enter a build in the open world, apparently) What's the point of having the game be open when it's not like certain sections in previous games where your Pokemon are at a level that gives you a selection of dungeons/badges you could go to when in SV there's a very clear progression of levels in the roadblocks for the stories? Why go for an ugly semi-realistic western inspired artstyle?

3 hit the sweet spot between too much bloat and simplicity. They're perfect. There's a reason they're still the most consistently played of the series to this day.

7 trumps 5 for the technical capabilities i.e. widespread connectivity e.g. of trading, battling, number of gimmicks, number of mons, things to do for meta gaming, in-game, shiny hunting etc it was the peak of that stuff, but 5 are better games for a single playthrough/story.

7 was the finale of the series.

I'd give anything to go back to they heyday of those games. It felt like I could have kept playing the meta-game (I don't just mean battling) around those for another decade or more, but the franchise just moved on way to fast and fucking salted the earth it once grew in with the end of Pokemon Bank. Bastards.
