Realistically, regions for future mainline games will only be more European countries and tourist states (for the Japanese POV) like California, Texas, or Florida. The rest of the world will be lucky if they are considered for a spin-off region or just be referenced with a Pokemon Dex entry like Copperajah or Arcanine.

Maybe with luck one day we will get an Australian-based region, but not beyond that.

Not sure I agree, Europe has maybe 4 or 5 more viable candidates left at most, and that's being generous. There's a fat chance in hell they ever touch Eastern Europe, I would name a dozen odd countries around the world I think have better chances. They could probably milk the US for a little while, but I think only some of the coastal states have real chances. Depending on how long the franchise goes on, they will have to go global at some point or pivot to making fictional regions.

Odds are, after they've exhausted all the proper countries, they'll start filling out the third world and middle america. But as we've barely gotten 6 in 30 years, that's not going to be for a long lock of years yet.

Until India gets its shit together (hint: never), there won't be a Pokemon region based on it. If they ever do develop to the point where the average Jeet can afford a console + videogames, then India will definitely come, just too many people not to capitalize on it.

The odds of the entire population of India getting above the poverty line is slim, especially with their caste system. And even if they did, it'd still take about 3 generations of humans before the kids being born woiuld be born into a society that saw vidya as a legitimate form of time-waste (I was born same year as NES launched, I know a man 5-6 years older than me fucking adores good vidya games, I know another about 6 years older than him who has absolutely no interest in them, despite his kids being into them. And now kids today get ruined with basically computers in mobile phone or home console form).

I work for a European airline, I know my geography, and I stand by my statement. I would expect the Benelux countries and Scandinavia to be bundled like the Iberian countries were. So in my mind, the viable ones are Italy, Greece, Germany, Benelux, Scandinavia, and mayyybe Poland. I suppose Austria+Switzerland is possible but I think they would more likely be rolled into Germany and/or Italy.

I just think Iran would be real comfy, and can already imagine it. It has everything GF adds to their regions already.
Also imagine all the Iranian inspired clothing options, especially if they dig into its pre-islamic past, or even just its medieval past.
Visiting a thriving Hormuz-equivalent city and seeing people from other regions there would be kino. Maybe even have an island South of it representing the Arab coast where you can dive for pearls. Peak game right there.

A few of those would likely be combined like Spain and Portugal were, and even still, Gamefreak probably wants this franchise to last another few decades, at least. They will leave Europe and the US eventually.

Yes, but I'll be dead by then and you lot not far off. They've gone to 5 countries up to today. 3 Gens from now, we'll only have 8, see the problem? And that's assuming they go to new countries, not take US states or another Japanese region along the way. And they'll probably take a gap year every ten-ish years to line the anniversary up with a new Gen.

They have that weird love-have relationship. China hates Japan on surface yet they buy Japanese cars (not sure if they still do tho) and watch anime. Japan often include and portray China positively in their anime, make games and movies about Three Kingdom, the Monkey King etc.

I can't see any African or south Asian countries happening at all because they are total shitholes devoid of culture. I would love to see a Russian region, but that's not happening in the current timeline. There's still plenty of places to choose from for the time being though.
