Guess the x and y writers were right to babyfy mega evolution to a button press everyone could use with their free mega ring + mega lucario + Kanto starter + blaziken. Imagine what’d happen to the games if mega evolutions/ keystones had lore that implied that it actually took effort to get/ use megas or that using them had drawbacks. The kids would hate it. They also would’ve hated the parts that describe megas like berserk transformation states that pokemon and trainers need to learn how to control through bonds/ training. Kids hate those themes in media. Everyone hated hollow ichigo, ozaru, the kyubi in Naruto, and the multitude of other examples. The mega friendship button you can use with a newly caught pinsir is way more compelling narratively. Also, they should be grateful that the new affection system with multiple minigames that took up a ton of development time was only useful for getting a sylveon and making the game even easier. It should’ve had no narrative tie ins with bonding with your pokemon to be able to use megas. Also, it was great that the change was so last minute that the anime staff and the mystery dungeon folks didn’t have time to rework anime plot lines/ take out game mechanics involving megas entering a berserk state. Very cash money of Gamefreak and the x and y story writers as the youth would say.
