I am currently doing a solo run of Pokemon Opalo with Delcatty. In that game, Delcatty is a Normal/Fairy type. While this would be a beneficial change in a normal playthrough, for a solo run it is detrimental.
I will try to lay it out simply
A Normal Delcatty could struggle with a few types
Fighting
Ghost
Steel and Rock
Normally if Delcatty has a level or EV advantage she can one shot Fighting types with her Normal stab and Delcatty can learn Feint Attack for Ghosts and Wake Up Slap for Steel and Rock through level up. So once you get to your early 30s, Delcatty can breeze through most games.
However Normal/Fairy Delcatty complicates this
Now she can struggle with
Fire
Poison
And big-time STEEL
this might sound better, after less types are now a potential problem
But Steel is now a big threat so she now takes super effective damage from it. So alot of times you will be taking hard Iron Heads and Steel wings in the face, especially against foes like Skarmory.
Fire and Poison shouldn't be a problem, just use Return or another good Normal-type stab right? Well, I left out one key detail.
This Normal/Fairy type Delcatty has a new ability(and this is her only nonhidden ability) Pixelate. This means all Normal-type moves are now Fairy type and Delcatty LOSES her ability to use Normal-type stabs!
This makes Fire types annoying as I have no attack to deal with them (Delcatty could learn moves to deal with Fire-types, but it is not worth the move slot sacrifice as I need other moves to deal with more dangerous types)
The saving grace against Poison is Zen Headbutt, which I thankfully found the TM for. But if I didn't I would have no good way of dealing with poison-types.
Zen Headbutt also only has a 90% hitchance so I miss sometimes and that causes problems.
