In the plot, Jett and Vinnie of Quasartico Inc. want to close Hotel Z to demolish it and build a new company activity center (the hotel and the Quasartico building are in opposite positions on the map). Az tries at all costs to prevent the closure, as it was his home for some time and belonged to his brother's descendants for many generations, being a place where people and Pokémon from all over the world and for many years used as a place to heal and rest from their travels, and many wild Pokémon live in the hotel.
Your character stays at the hotel, as Az is a friend of your father (many references that his father is Professor Sycamore). You will meet your friend as soon as you arrive in the city when Chikorita, Tepid and Totodile will appear running through the train station lobby, Taunie/Urbain will explain that these Pokémon are not native to Kalos and will be staying at the hotel just like you, Az is the one who tells you to choose one of the 3, as a partner will make the little monster adapt more easily to the new region, with that your rival will stay with the one who has an advantage over your chosen one and Az will stay with the third one at the hotel.
