Substituting the word why'd for wide is ridiculously retarded ESL behavior. Actual English speakers will see 'wide' and automatically think of 'large' 'fat' or any other synonyms of the word's meaning, but an ESL needs to sound it out, and doesn't actually understand why the words why'd and wide are different even though they sound identical.
