>>57580842The development of East and South East Asian languages basically boils down to "I don't like our neighbors, let's make our language as different as possible to show them who's the peasant." It's only with the last 100 or so years where mindset this has been retired in almost every culture, but Japan clings onto it, and sorta but not really China. (China doesn't really, but they also want to be in control of their language still which is a little bit difficult.)
East Asia is also very xenophobic to the westerner cultures. Japan's probably the friendliest of the bunch thanks to occupation, followed by the Philippines and Korea(thanks to liberation and support against the communists,) but the rest could not possibly care less for us.
There is quite a lot of interesting pre-occupied literature I've come across over the years (translated) that basically boils down to "western cultures are TERRIBLE for us, we should ignore them!" This includes entire books dedicated to dissecting some random ass English book that analyzed their architecture or something while trying to frame it in a negative light. It's all quite interesting, and it's clear there are some lingering elements.
The way they teach English in their public educational system must've changed in the last decade or so. I remember coming across old blogs in the early 2010s that described an English teacher's experience in Japan, and the three or so blogs didn't mention ANYTHING like that. Fascinating. Maybe I'll make videos teaching the Japanese how to speak better English and post it to Nico Video :P
