Here are my Gym Leader OCs. Give me suggestions for their Gym puzzles/challenges.
So far I have:
Normal - No puzzle
Grass - Cut down trees in order to build a bridge to reach the Gym Leader
Poison - Finding ingredients for the Gym Leader to make Secret Medicine
Electric - Step on tiles to make music. Stepping on the wrong tile triggers a Trainer battle
Dragon - A JRPG-styled dungeon
Rock - Climbing up to the peak via Rock Climb
Now what would Water and Flying’s be?

On my own? My ideas would probably only be a bit better. My art would only be a bit better. Gym leaders made for Pokémon games are a collaborative effort.

The Flying one and the one next to the Dragon girl are the only ones who, with a bit of polish, looks like they could actually fit in a Pokémon game in terms of stylistic choices.
The Dragon one is the least attuned to Pokémon stylistic choices, she's too much of a generic hot JRPG girl.
The others are all too generic or too similar to things we've already seen.

To answer OP's question;

Has there been a water gym that utilizes currents? Otherwise maybe something where you have to participate in a drum festival? (or a festival of some kind). Could really make it on the nose and use Dive to find enough pearls to progress through the gym?

Something similar to Ultra Space travel, but with a regular flying mon and you need to either score enough points to continue or navigate somewhere? Something where you get fired out of a canon to travel between platforms?

I love the poison type chick but her head reminds me of a pepper and I wish she was a Grass and Fire gym leader instead, with a Scovillain lead and also a Vileplume, Cacturne, Trevenant, Salazzle, and Houndoom.

Too similar to Roxie, maybe she'd work as a singer.

Anon, this is *just* a lumberjack which might work as a random trainer class but is too generic for a gym leader. Try coming up with a more "earthy" design.

I get the idea, but I'd recommend not making the her a carbon-copy of the DQ3 femwarrior. Maybe model her armor after her ace.
>Witch
A witch feels like it fits Ghost or Psychic more than Poison. If she's supposed to be a "skilled potion maker", then lean into a more alchemist/chemist design.
>Miner
Too simlar to Roark/Byron in design.

I agree she basically Roxie, but as a Grunge singer she fits my region basis (Washington)

I’ll be redesigning the Grass, Dragon, and Rock. I was thinking of replacing the last one with a Coast Salish chief that specializes in Fairy-types.

Poison challenge could be instead stepping on switches to fill giant test tubes to create concoctions that become corrosive and melt open new pathways to the leader, maybe ends with a concoction that explodes in a way that resembles a magic spell

The tree shaped hair is alright but I don't like the repeated use of it. Also for the record I believe there is currently only one Pokemon character with canon chest hair. The axe color feels out of place with the rest of the design, and it doesn't help the axe is more "berserker" style than lumberjack so it sticks out too much

I think that will work with the hair. You could add a Haxorus related accessory there instead to tie it in because as it stands now I don't think anyone will see that axe and think Haxorus. Also, maybe an axe like picrel with a bit of an exaggeration on the long side could make it look more like a lumberjack axe without losing your vison for the Haxorus connection?

Personally, I'd try to give him a gardening overalls.
Pokémon characters never have chest hair to that extent (pretty sure the guy in PLW is supposed to have a tattoo on his chest, not hair) and it frankly looks a little gross.
Bare chest is also usually reserved for very specific designs such as Water Type Trainers, Fighting Trainers and those living in extreme weather conditions as a proof of their strength.
A Grass Type trainer that works as a lumberjack doesn't really fit any of these.

Also, I don't know why you think chest hair is gross. Hairy nipples I can understand, but chest hair?

That depends on what you like to see in a fangame. Personally, I prefer it when characters in a fangame look at least a bit believable in the Pokémon world, which does have stylistic rules (which alas have gotten definitely looser in the last couple gens, but still within reason).
I have Pokémon OCs too that are Gym Leaders and of course I take my liberties with them but I don't like going way too much out of what I personally I consider "Pokémon-like".

As for chest hair, I'm not a fan of it in general which is very subjective, but a whole tree-shaped green bush on a character's chest is objectively a bit tacky.
