Depends on the aerodynamics of the ship. The air curves around the ship, and by hanging off its edge he's likely exposed to a lot more wind pressure.
We'd need someone autistic enough to take the ship's model and map it out

The kids weren't hanging off the edge like he was, and even before that Friede and Charizard have a larger profile than them meaning they're susceptible to greater wind pressure from the get go. The difference even a foot can make when it comes to wind pressure is immense.
Like I said we'd need someone autistic enough to take the airship's model and check its aerodynamics
