It's meant to be an experimental series that changes the main formula, to stop things feeling stale and samey like in your childhood, because they could get away with it with the potato handhelds they were given.
That's why L: A got made instead of a brainless rehash like you wanted and why they (finally) added real-time battling, just to say they did it to bin it for Gen 10.
