Knowing GF, I'm starting to believe they made the battles take place at night because they couldn't run both trainers and wild Pokémon at the same time.

You on to something OP i bet it won't be a direct transition into it, When sundown happens you'll get a quick 3 second clip then all the areas will have trainers, No way will these trainers walk into the location spots from somewhere, Defo a load screen.

You can see the frame rate and resolution up scale when the player steps into the Wild area versus being in the city more broadly
It's actually pretty smart on their part to contain the action to specific zones because they can despawn the rest of the city where they know you won't be

Then when you're finished with the night portion you go to sleep at the hotel
Wild zones are open at night too so I think you have a lot more to do at night than during the day. And the daytime is probably when you go do shopping and stuff like that
