But if you want to compete with Pokemon on monster designs then it is fair to compare them with gen 1/peak of Pokemon designs. I have no idea who Monster Crowns Pikachu or Charizard is. Even Agumon has its own personality. I don't see enormous personality/soul in the monster designs, only in the overworld art style, which reminds me of Mother 3.
Iirc the monster designer of Monster Crown worked together with Dr Lava to make impression sketches of lost Pokemon, which he/she did very nicely but that was all made based on Pokemon design principles. It is a different issue when you are making a game/monsters on your own
