1. The mental component: primates have strong family bonds, so they can't be separated from the group, or they can fall into depression. In this case, your family becomes their core family, and they can't understand why you need to go to work or on vacation. They also need intellectual stimulation, or they could develop serious mental illnesses like humans.
2. Zoonosis: In both cases, primates in zoos need extra precautions because they can easily transmit and be infected with human pathogens. One of the most dangerous is tuberculosis, a disease that only manifests in advanced stages. Primate keepers must undergo biannual medical tests.
A third additional problem is poaching: many species are taken from the wild, carrying diseases and severe psychological trauma.
Even if you want a monkey, remember that it will be like having a small, furry, and problematic child that you will have to take care of for the rest of its life. There are very few successful cases of reintegration into its ecosystem, because they need to learn a lot of things from their mother to survive in the wild.
