I tried AL last year, I believe it was the demo just before the calendar system was introduced. It was cute (liked Brendan, Leaf, and Nate from what I saw) but the funneling of seemingly the entire world through that one school along with the early-game reveal of why Oak insisted Red be there was a bit too on the nose for me. You can tell I don't touch Japanese school fiction in the slightest. Braxton Burk's music is also too grandiose for the setting.

I have never played a game that cheats so bad, so many mons with wicked blow, thousand waves, no I don't believe chandalure can learn fucking ice beam. free speed boosts all the time, level advantages, it was painful. I dare you to ask me if I'm doing postgame. I'll give it a 4/10, at least it has some qol, hm items, some skippable cutscenes, you do get a lot of strong bullshit yourself, but it's not worth it.

As for Kowako, I think that the existence of Phantasm is what really sets her over the edge. Spirited Away is already incredibly strong but she is slow, so a fast fairy type or something could fuck her up or shut her down but then you just click Phantasm and go oops, I have a free turn to do whatever the hell I want. I don't know what they were thinking to give Spirited Away 15 BP and no restrictions initially. Even at 5 BP and every other turn its still nuts.
There are some other lines that are also really good like Summy and Orrowhelm but they're gated by level caps unlike Kowako who you have access to as early as Gym 3.
Another thing that I think is really poorly conceived is Relic in general. Having almost their entire moveset being Freeze Dry clones is really broken. The magnet thing literally only needs Wild Charge and Earth Shaker.

>Empyrean That's a fair assessment. I feel Empyrean's difficulty would be volumetrically higher if Sneedgle were deleted from the dex, but also a far less interesting game for it. Realistically it just needs more autowin moves on the banlist.
