Welp May 30th it is, it was a fun run, excited for what's to come next, hopefully they release like 2 or more weeks in the next update instead of just 1 week every few months or something. For teambuilding I've just been spamming Larvitar(starter)'s rock slide + breaking swipe from the cyclizar you can get in the 1st area + random 3rd aoe mon like alolan ninetails. There are a shitton of double and triple battles which all follow the gen 3 mechanic of immediately sending out a new mon immediately as something faints and I've breezed through every fight in the game so far. I'll try to now get all the bond events I missed and also level up some types I neglected or will need in the future (rock or dark for ttar and fairy and water for some variety as I focused entirely on ground-poison-dragon)

the idea of world 8 is good, navigate a multi floored dungeon finding keys that are guarded by bowser's admins, simple. the actual layout of the world might as well be one of those "emerald but all the doors are randomized" things, had a terrible time. you fight bowser, his first team is actually pretty tough, lost to it once. then you fight a totem mon version of him in his giga bowser form but with luigi as a partner, pretty easy. that's all 8 stars, and now it's time for vic-mushroom hill

Every fangame dev lately seems to be enamored with the idea of having an enemy that mirrors your team and every single time they struggle to play bulkier pivot based teams effectively.
I'm glad this game leans Ethan being somewhat of a tard narratively; it feels apt given how most fangame AIs struggle to use certain team archetypes well.

good ending. you're both entered into the hall of fame since the challenge was just getting the 8 stars and beating the elite 4, but luigi gets the wish, and he wishes to just go home with mario. In terms of it being a mario rpg game, they peaked with world 1, world 8, and rainbow road. everything else was either eh or annoying as hell. world 2's gym leader is daisy, but you don't go to her kingdom for it, you just go to a cloud world and do a super mario strikers reference. world 3 is two long memory test minigames and an enjoyable rental battle challenge. world 4 is fuck you if you aren't buying repels. world 5 is abysmal, fuck that entire time with captain toad. if you thought the character switching in unbreakable ties was bad get ready for mariomon. world 6 is where they decide to have npcs talk about how awful working is, omg my landlord bruh, nepotism, etc. world 7, the most simple one where you just travel a bit and fight totem pokemon for keys essentially, is enjoyable but also the shortest one, of course. world 8 is a nightmare if you're not good at navigating and remembering where you just came from, but was actually okay in hindsight. rainbow road actually incorporating mario kart in a way where being good at mach bike skips victory road is a great idea. A lot of missed opportunities in this though, in terms of gameplay, mon choices, trainer choices being mostly toads and koopas, a real letdown. I have played more mario then yugioh, but that yugioh-pokemon game I played was way better in terms of feeling like a yugioh fan made it with soul. I am unironcally saying that mariomon feels a bit soulless while yugiohmon was soulful. mariomon gets a 5/10
