Lots of people prefer Red/Blue over Yellow, Gold/Silver over Crystal and SM over USUM but is there any advantage to playing RS over Emerald or DP over Platinum?

Never had an issue with the slow pace, either
There’s also some graphical changes they made in Pt that sort of make them lose it’s lustre

I actually like the pacing of OG RS over either Emerald or ORAS. It's much snappier at the expense of less content and Emerald doesn't really do anything over RS to justify playing it over those two games. Team Magma is an afterthought at best in Emerald, the game might as well be built off of Sapphire. Pokemon third versions have a habit of fucking up the main game and then justifying it with objectively better post game content that you wish were just in the vanilla dual releases. DP is literally the exception because it's the only third version that expanded the dex besides USUM

Nothing really. Crystal's enhancements make for a much smoother experience. It's just removing Mareep is such a Masuda decision to make you also need to buy GS regardless

If you want to use Magmar you can get a free Shiny Magby from Odd Egg. It's at the expense of wanting to use some other choices like Electabuzz or Jynx, but Odd Egg alone makes team building in Crystal a lot more fun than GS

I think you could make a case that BW have a better story and I'm sure some people prefer it for that, but BW2 is hands down the better game. the problem with BW is the gimmick of not having any returning Pokemon. it's a fun novelty once, but makes teambuilding in subsequent playthroughs severely limited. I'd say BW2 are the biggest upgrade over the original game next to Platinum

completely wrong and to this day i have a hard time understanding why people so overwhelmingly prefer BW2. BW had so much intentionality behind every aspect, from the exclusive dex to the pointed storytelling, they make BW2 feel confusing and kind of thrown together by comparison. i don't mean to be hard on BW2 because i remember those games being fun, but i feel like they had nothing to say (or at least nothing clear, at any rate) and went to great lengths to undo the faraway isolated vibe of unova by throwing in so many oldgen pokémon. hilbert and hilda are also the best pair of protags we've ever had to this day and that's a hill i'm willing to die on

It's a new story, new protagonists, new characters, timeskip, visiting new areas of the region. It's not a third version, whether it fills the same marketing niche or not. USUM is not comparable in the slightest, that one is indeed a traditional 3rd version.

You can use the eReader cards, Pokemon BOX RS's 'Adventure' option to play your games on a console if you do not have a GameBoy Player, and Colosseum is slightly more balanced/designed for you compared to Emerald (since Emerald has the Safari Zone extension to get a lot of what you can otherwise only get in Colosseum).

The only thing Platinum unnecessarily fucks up is the game's pacing having you fight Fantina early but that gets rectified early and fixes the endgame pacing DP mucks up to begin with. They heavily mog Masuda's half-assed crap

There are no sources. The games are right there. Platinum's "improvements" only manage to make the game an even bigger slog than it already is, the map touchups are appauling, the game progression is laughable at best, the Distortion World is the most inconsequential shit in the series, yet it drags on for way to long, for no good reason at all, and a lot lot more. Platinum is the most "fanmade rom hack" game in the series, in the worst ways possible. Unplayable piece of shit.

Wallace is such a bottleneck on the endgame it's actually absurd. He subsidizes the end game into the too much water criticism much further and has a rather underwhelming team just in general. His only real asset is Milotic and Cynthia uses a much tougher one

He became the Champion after he beat Steven, makes perfect sense to me. Just like Blue became the Kanto Champion because he beat Lance and Red then beat Blue and became Champion.

Even if Steven stepped down we know that Wallace either beat all of the E4 to become the Champion or he was specifically chosen by the League to be the Champion. Wallace also fits the aquatic theme of Hoenn way better than Steven.

And Steven's just a rich nepobaby autist that likes rocks, makes perfect sense he wanted to spend his time looking at them in caves, and you still have the advantage of having a badass Red in GSC moment with him when you face him in the post-game. If anything Steven only benefited from Emerald, now he's a trainer that's on Red's level.

I know you're a troon hopped up on hormones that have no place being in your body but how in the hell do you do this mental gymnastics that Emerald is half-assed? It's the optimal way to play Hoenn and by far the most popular gen III Pokémon game. Did you just grow up with Ruby or Sapphire and can't admit they're inferior versions? Look I grew up with Diamond myself so I have a soft spot for it, but you gotta realize you're coming off as insane as I would be if I said Diamond or Pearl were in any way better than Platinum or pretending Platinum was a half-assed distraction for Shartnova.

Swampert doesn't even get hard walled by anything other than Ludicolo, the only other inspired thing on his team but that thing folds to any Flying type. Don't forget it's a game that lets you catch Rayquaza early now, or run something like Swellow, Artaria or Skarmory

With your point of Hoenn being "aquatic" wouldn't it make more sense to have Hoenn have Wallace be the Champion of Sapphire or Ruby than Emerald? Steven being someone who studies rocks makes sense in a region with conflicting ideals between the earth and the sea. Steven being the land and Wallace being the sea. Putting him on par with Red doesn't really change the fact he already debuted as that since he was a Champion in his debut. That already makes him better than Red, Blue or even Lance

Radioactive neon greens, a tropical island on the same level as an expansive tundra next to it and two paches of snow in the starting now, in the most southwest part of the map and nowhere else, is objectively better, somehow... How could I miss that... I agree about Fantina. There was no reason for doing what they did, but I still prefer the DP progression, because it isn't the rairoaded straight line that is Platinum. They should have found an actual reason that you are not able to battle Fantina yet though. The Distortion World was always unnecessary shit, made even worse with it coming right after bot Galactic HQ AND Spear Pillar, back to back to back.
