You can never trust a glownigger, not even if he tells you his "backstory". Either Ethan is a displaced time-traveler because of his possession of the GS Ball and Spiky-Eared Pichu OR he is actually Celebi. Would explain why he has trouble with remembering names a fair bit too. Klara is far, far too chummy with Red for the same amount of work put into her. Sure, this can be attributed to her being simply an obsessive, thirsty homewrecker (implied), but if she's a Pokémon that's not on the same tier of wilfulness as Tia, then it would make a great deal of sense. Oh wow, thanks game, I love getting kicked in the balls. I feel extremely salty that I couldn't come up with anything to win this, but I had nothing, I couldn't get male Meowtism by this point, no Sturdy Pokemon, my selection of choices was so painfully shit that realistically there was nothing I could do and the game is pretty much mocking me despite me realistically having no chance. Made a little progress in the early game but was caught up with other things until the past couple weeks; currently I've just beaten Blake in Ametrine, so still a substantial way to go but enough cleared that I can formulate some impressions.

The notorious waterfall scene is case in point. I suspected that the raw and melodramatic dialogue was taken from a real relationship with a BPD person and was confirmed in this by Amethyst's creator commentary. However, while the words have verisimilitude, the scene is poorly crafted. That Titania happens to be writing a diary entry about her feelings of resentment in enabling Amaria just as the player walks in, that this prickly and secretive character leaves it open and visible to the player and her depressed and emotionally unstable partner who is due to return momentarily—these are weak contrivances. The characters feel real but it's clumsy and could've been improved with gentler pacing and a more plausible discovery (e.g. private communication with a friend). I also can't decide if dialogue like Ciel responding to Amaria's suicide attempt by saying that you'll need Waterfall to help her out is meant to be dark humour or tone-deafness.
Conversely, while it's sort of ridiculous, I have enjoyed the abused kids plotline. Sigmund is fun to hate and I like the black absurdity of his ace being the Electivire that performs electroconvulsive therapy on children. Heather and Shelly are a joy, and I like the Belrose girls too. The somewhat sophomoric delivery of 'mature content' often crosses the line into being satisfying in its unselfconscious brazenness, as with Charlotte saying she learnt to love the flames as she stared into the fire that killed her parents in the accident that sent her to Sigmund's electroconvulsive therapy orphanage. As with Amaria, there's authenticity to the more chuunibyou and/or outcaste characters that is perhaps less palpable in the dialogue that attempts to capture urban grit.

I like Cain as he is basically a loyal and kind character if you get past the exaggerated flamer behaviour, but his lewd jokes, often made around child characters, or Amaria's impulsive rhapsodising about Titania's soft skin pass without substantial comment while the writing is given to take a more lecturing tone when it comes to Hardy's apparently sincere affection for Aya. To be clear, I don’t personally care about Cain’s jokes or find them offensive, but there is a strange sexual/moral bias in the work that sometimes makes the writing awkward around characters expressing sexual and romantic desires. Even a basically unpleasant character like Bennett, whose desires could be framed as pathological or insincere since he claims to love Luna while assisting in her capture by El, is treated more the villain simply for wanting her in the first place. Not a big problem but in tandem with Amethyst's hostility to player romance it does seem like she allowed personal neuroses to interfere with the writing. There are relatedly a few occasions when the dialogue feels like a PSA, but it's not too overbearing.
Altogether my impressions are positive. In addition to the solid battling progression, the puzzles are generally clever and inventive too, and there is a high level of polish. Really the principal issue with the writing is just craft. Scenes come off as 'edgy' not because they're misconceived but because everything is just a little clumsy. You can see this in unrelated areas like the dialogue of Florinia and Luna, where the reach of the writing somewhat exceeds its grasp. Grammatical lapses and misuse of words mar characters who are supposed to come off aloof, intellectual, and verbally competent. With all that said, it is a basically compelling adventure. Here are sloppas of Shelly, my favourite character.

I've heard a little about the long character speeches and lesbian melodrama getting more and more questionable in the late game. Well, I'll see what I think, and keep an eye on Bennett and Luna too. For now I just beat Terra, who definitely requires a decent tolerance for tumblr affectations and humour. But as has often been the case with Reborn, it was a great gym challenge regardless: the idea of Gen 1 terrain was good, and the trollish Amnesia strat was both fun to counter and appropriate for the character. Access to Clefairy in the Mt. Moon area was a nice bonus.

It's interesting background, although I'm unlikely to go through Amethyst's whole commentary unless I really take to the game. I was curious about that scene in particular though, and she claims she was in a similar position to Titania at one stage of her life with a BPD partner and Amaria's line about her heart of glass being shattered was something said to her.

A well made 'generic' team can roll with the punches of almost every field in the game chosen at random except (against an opponent optimized for that field) for this one in most cases unless you're doing something the AI just isn't adequately programmed to handle counterplaying (Trick Room easily clears almost every "hard" fangame for instance).
I'm curious to hear your thoughts as you get towards the end of the main story and which story branches you take.

both connected to each other , just one is impossible to get through a blind playthrough. Since you're doing one, we'll spare you the overall details and let you form your own conclusions.
Overall the Reborn "trilogy" is good as far as game mechanics are concern (namely, the environment gimmick where the battle field can be used to ones advantage). If you are planning on doing the other two afterwords (Rejuvenation and Desolation), I'm sure you'll have as much of a fun time as we do.
