Other games may have more content or be more difficult, but they often lack a good story or strong graphics, whereas BW1 stands out as the most well-rounded title overall.

In terms of Pokémon designs, BW are quite creative and honestly better than 90% of Kanto.

In terms of trainers, it's even better. Like it's actually easy to guess a characters profession or type specialty. It was harder in FRLG, like, wtf does Brock do?

BW has more thought put into it's world and story than any Kanto game. The proof is in the prerelease material.

I can't help but feel like people like this game for the same reasons people like the other games. Even though the strong story is talked about, it's hardly appreciated, and the same is true for its characters.

I agree, though I wish they tried to push the bill a bit further. There's a lot of dialogue about Pokémon being slaves, but not much actually said on it besides characters saying "you're obviously wrong" or "I respect your perspective, but I disagree."

But they do counter it, the whole game is about how opposites are often overplayed and contrasted in order to control the masses. Team plasma and N believe that pokemon inherently suffer as a result of living with people since they are opposites and can't communicate with each other. The protagonist's journey throughout the diverse region shows that opposites can benefit from being reconciled, and often are an oversimplification.

It's a good story until you start comparing it to games that aren't mainline pokemon. When you do that, it becomes dogshit. I think Pokemon Pinball has a more interesting plot than every mainline game

Tourists? I've been playing since Gen 3 and own physical copies of almost every game, main series and spin offs. I can recite most of the dex in order and have played every game to, at least the credits.

I regularly collect merch (my room is full of posters, plushies and cards). I also keep up with the anime and manga whenever new content is available. This franchise takes up like 75% of my life. My two favorite games are BW2 and EoS and for good reason.
