>>57752128I still respect him for his legacy, he was in charge for the peak years of the franchise. of course the 3rd versions were always better, but they were 90% built on the games he directed.
the series pretty much died for me when Ohmori became the main director, I don't like his vision for the franchise at all. a lot of people point to XY as the beginning of the end, and XY were definitely a blunder in many ways, but at the time they released it felt like a misstep that the series could still recover from. I was still optimistic that it was a temporary stumble. since Ohmori took over in SM, I haven't felt any optimism that the series would improve under his direction, because I just fundamentally don't align with his vision.
anyway yeah, I can't hate the man, he gave me so much of my childhood. I don't know how involved he really is with the series anymore, like it's easy to blame him for stuff like dexcut, but idk how much control he really has over that stuff. even if he's made questionable decisions lately, it doesn't erase his legacy. I feel like what anon above said about the series outgrowing him is probably true. I get the feeling he would be happy still making small scale handheld games, but the industry has moved on from that and he's just a man out of his element now.
