Battling gets the usual formula of defeating all gym leaders, Researcher gets a storyline and gameplay more similar to PLA, filling the pokedex, Coordinators get a brand new storyline type based on winning contests, more like an idol/sports anime.
The skill trees support the gameplay of all three classes giving support to raising stats for battle, contests or catching pokemon.
There's also a main storyline that focuses on the typical evil team, all four can get through it but the means are different. Battlers are the most straight forward, they go in guns blazing like usual, Coordinators get boosts from their pokemon conditions for dialogue based options(tough, cute, beauty, cool, clever), researchers get mostly knowledge checks and stealth, since they spend most of the time studying and being stealthy to catch pokemon.
There's also minor skills.
Cooking let's you craft items to lure pokemon, raise them for cotnests, or be used as objects in battles.
Outdoors is a skill that determines how well your character can use his team to get through harsh weather and survive in the wilderness. You have berry growing, camping, and traveling.
The game has a PLA system for the maps. They are all large open world areas connected through a traveling menu. It is also set in a modern world, preferably a Gen 2 like setting, in a city where you can travel to different districts of it, think historic district where you might find ghost types at night, or an old industrial district where you might find steel and grass types in abandonned railways, etc.
But the larger maps represent the wilderness outside the city. Beaches, grasslands, mountains, lakes, etc.
The game has a small calendar system, and the seasons change each month like in Black and White, but this is disconnected from real world time, it has an ingame time system.
