>>57772192>>57772154>>57772199The issue is not the open world, it's that GameFreak doesn't know how to design one. And Nintendo came halfway through with BotW. The issue with BotW is that they don't have interesting dungeons, and moments like the fight with the dragon on top of the fountain of wisdom are sparse. I think part of it is either Nintendo didn't have enough time to design more things like those, or what's more probably seeing TotK, they simply don't want to make too much content players might not see. I think if they cut the shrines by four and focused puzzles on optional hidden dungeons and sidequests it would have been perfectly executed.
Games like Morrowind or New Vegas have good open world game design and they are very fun to explore.
Getting mad at open worlds as a game element because today it's full of open world sloppa is like getting mad at Harvest Moon like farming mechanics because the market became saturated by cheap Stardew Valley knockoffs.
It's not the mechanics themselves what are at fault here.
